Spider-Man’s Infamous Clone Saga Being Developed as Prime Video TV Series

Weeks after Prime Video’s disappointing decision to cancel its very good Spider-Noir series, the streamer is nearing a deal with Sony for another baffling alternate Spider-Man take. According to Deadline, Amazon is close to green lighting a series based on the infamous mid-’90s “Clone Saga” storyline… um, sort of.

The comic story followed complicated web of Peter Parker clones created by villain The Jackal, two of the most prominent of which were Ben Reilly, who created the Scarlet Spider identity, and Kaine, an antagonistic clone who went by the alias… well, Kaine. (And at some point in the 2010s Kaine also became Scarlet Spider…) However, sources say the comics may only be seen as “source material and inspiration,” with the adaptation potentially making significant changes.

In fact, there’s conflicting reports on whether a TV series would focus on Ben and Kaine facing off against other clones (like Spidercide… look, I said the storyline was “infamous,” okay?) or would completely alter their identities to make them not Spider-Man clones at all. For what it’s worth, Spider-Noir was named Peter Parker in the comics but the Nic Cage series renamed him Ben Reilly to skirt some rights questions, so doing a “sorta-kinda-not-really” style adaptation is right in their wheelhouse.

Whatever it turns out to be, it’s being written by American Born Chinese creator Kelvin Yu, with Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller expected as producers.
