PM lauds Malaysian contingent on best WorldSkills showing since 1995

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated the Malaysian contingent for winning one bronze medal and 13 Medallions for Excellence at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026.

Anwar said the achievement was the national contingent’s best performance in the competition since 1995.

“Congratulations to the 22 youths who demonstrated their prowess and skills in TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training), bringing honour to the country.

“Continue to hone your skills and pursue excellence. You are the pride of the nation,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

In the same post, the prime minister gave special recognition to Sia Xin Wan, who won a bronze medal in the Software Testing category and received the Best of Nation award.

At WSC Shanghai 2026, the Malaysian contingent of 22 participants competed in 21 skill categories across various technical sectors supervised by the Department of Skills Development and the Ministry of Works.

The tournament ran from Sept 22 to 27 and brought together 1,400 skilled young professionals from 65 countries and regions competing in 64 skill areas. — Bernama
