Some QC schools suspend in-person classes due to poor air quality

MANILA, Philippines — Face-to-face classes were suspended in some schools in Quezon City due to poor air quality recorded in the city on Tuesday. 

In an advisory, the Quezon City Government suspended in-person classes of child development centers, kindergarten, Grades 1-12, and Alternative Learning System of all public schools. Their classes will shift to alternative delivery modes of learning.

It then noted that class suspension of private schools and higher education institutions is left to the discretion of their school administrations.

Citing the latest Air Quality Index, the Quezon City Government said that the city’s air quality monitoring sensors recorded “unhealthy” and “very unhealthy” air quality and may cause difficulty of breathing and cough, especially to those with respiratory conditions. 

“Posibleng may kaugnayan ito sa smoke o haze mula sa mga kasalukuyang sunog sa Kalimantan, Indonesia. Pinapayuhan ang lahat na magsuot ng face mask at iwasan muna ang paglabas kung hindi kinakailangan,” it said in another advisory.
