CCTV captures moment deli worker dragged by car in alleged handbag theft

Translate

CCTV footage has captured the moment a lunch bar worker was dragged by a car after chasing an alleged thief accused of stealing a handbag in Perth's east.

The footage shows a hooded person entering the Wynyard Street lunch bar in Belmont shortly before 5am on Tuesday, going behind the counter and grabbing a bag before running outside.

A staff member follows the person and is then seen approaching the front passenger side of the white Holden Commodore sedan.

The woman appears to try to stop the car from leaving before falling to the ground.

Police allege the woman, aged in her 40s, was caught on the vehicle and dragged a short distance.

She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

Police later found the car in Willetton about 10:15am on Tuesday and took a 35-year-old woman into custody.

Two women charged

A second woman, 36, from Bentley in Perth's south-east, was arrested a day later in the nearby suburb Carlisle.

The two women have been charged over the incident, one of whom is expected to appear in court today.

The Bentley woman has been charged with endangering the life, health or safety of a person, aggravated burglary and stealing.

The other woman from the regional town of Trayning has also been charged with endangering the life, healthy or safety of a person and stealing, and is due in court next month.
