#SHOWBIZ: 'It was so scary': Sally Yeh, 65, saved from stage fall in Chongqing

HONG KONG: Music industry veterans often make performing look effortless, but a recent concert in Chongqing, China, showed that live shows always carry risks.

Cantopop star Sally Yeh narrowly avoided a serious injury after losing her balance during an energetic routine, leaving fans in the crowd momentarily terrified, according to Dimsum Daily.

The 65-year-old singer was performing alongside her husband, George Lam, on the latest leg of their tour in mainland China when the incident happened.

While singing a lively version of her classic hit I Believe In Love, Yeh turned towards the crowd before stumbling and lurching towards the edge of the dimly lit stage.

Fortunately, a male backup dancer showed incredible reflexes, catching the veteran singer around the waist just in time and stopping her before she could fall off the platform.

Video footage of the sudden stumble quickly went viral, prompting widespread relief among fans and praise for the dancer's quick thinking.

Many people online praised the crew's professionalism, while others gently urged the star to take extra care given the physical demands of her dance routines.

Addressing the audience shortly after the close call, a shaken Yeh admitted that her enthusiasm had briefly taken over.

"It was so scary. I felt disoriented, and the stage was so dark," she recalled, adding her heartfelt thanks: "Thank you to our young dancers!"

With the scare behind them, the legendary music star and her team are continuing with their scheduled concert dates across China.
