Fury’s Uncle Dismisses Joshua’s Training Claims

Translate

Peter Fury has hit back at Anthony Joshua after the heavyweight contender claimed he had been receiving tactical advice and guidance from Tyson Fury’s estranged uncle ahead of their upcoming blockbuster clash.

During a fiery press conference to promote their December bout in Cardiff, Joshua shocked onlookers by suggesting that Peter, who famously trained Tyson to his 2015 world title win over Wladimir Klitschko before a long-standing family falling-out, had been helping shape his preparation.

Joshua said: “I speak to Peter Fury. He’s willing to help me as well. Yeah, I’ll speak to him. Not about Fury but about our training and our approach – how I can approach the fight. The last time I spoke to him must have been about a month ago.”

However, Peter Fury wasted no time shutting down the narrative, taking to social media to dismiss the suggestion outright.

“Me and AJ spoke two months ago about advice on his skill set – really nice guy,” he wrote “After his fight, anything he needs from me [would] be a pleasure. He has a great team around him, including Team Usyk. My focus now is Rico [Verhoeven], we start camp very soon.”

While acknowledging that he and Joshua had exchanged general pleasantries and spoke about boxing skill sets a couple of months prior, Fury made it clear that any active collaboration is completely off the table while he focuses on other commitments, adding that any real assistance will have to wait until after the dust settles on December 11.

With Joshua also confirming that Ben Davison will act as his lead trainer, the dramatic verbal sparring outside the ring is already heating up long before the first bell sounds.
