Real Madrid maintained its perfect start to the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 with a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, extending its winning run across all competitions to four matches.

Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and substitute Yan Diomande scored for Jose Mourinho’s side, which has collected nine points from its opening three European fixtures.

The victory also provided Madrid with a boost ahead of Sunday’s La Liga Clasico against Barcelona.

Leipzig made the brighter start and nearly took the lead when Romulo Cardoso forced Thibaut Courtois into a fine low save.

Vinicius Junior subsequently tested Maarten Vandevoordt at the other end, but Madrid struggled to break down the visitors for much of the opening half.

The breakthrough arrived shortly before half-time when Federico Valverde found Guler inside the area. Although Vandevoordt kept out the Turkish midfielder’s effort, he failed to gather the ball, allowing Silva to convert the rebound from close range for his first Madrid goal since joining from Manchester City.

Madrid carried that momentum into the second half, with Vandevoordt denying Valverde before Guler doubled the advantage in the 52nd minute.

Jude Bellingham delivered a cross towards the far post, where Mbappe headed the ball across goal for Guler to finish from close range.

Mbappe nearly added another after being set up by Bellingham, but his effort struck the side-netting.

Mourinho introduced Diomande in place of Vinicius with around 20 minutes remaining, and the former Leipzig winger made an immediate impact.

Diomande found Mbappe on the edge of the penalty area, and the French forward curled a shot beyond Vandevoordt to put Madrid three goals ahead.

Leipzig responded shortly afterwards when Tidiam Gomis capitalised on a defensive lapse by Dean Huijsen to beat Courtois.

However, Madrid restored its three-goal cushion late on as Diomande met Brahim Diaz’s cross with a powerful volley into the top corner, scoring his third goal in four appearances.

The result leaves Madrid with three wins from three Champions League matches, maintaining its strong European form despite an inconsistent start to its domestic campaign.
