Jasa Kita eyes bigger KT System contribution

KUALA LUMPUR: Jasa Kita Bhd wants to turn newly acquired KT System Sdn Bhd into a bigger and more recurring contributor to earnings as it taps rising investment in Malaysia's power infrastructure.
The company plans to expand KT System's high-voltage testing, commissioning and protection capabilities while building up recurring inspection and maintenance work, said group managing director Datuk Seri Iskandar Mizal Mahmood.
The move is part of Jasa Kita's strategy to diversify beyond its traditional industrial distribution businesses, with opportunities seen in power generation, grid infrastructure, data centres and renewable energy.
"We estimate that the broader Malaysian power infrastructure opportunity is between RM40 billion and RM50 billion annually.
"Testing, protection and specialist engineering services - areas in which KT System already operates - represent an estimated addressable market of about RM600 million to RM2 billion a year," Iskandar said in a statement.
He stressed that the figures represent the potential market rather than Jasa Kita's order book or revenue forecast.
Iskandar said the expansion would be paced according to market demand, available opportunities and the group's ability to execute.
Jasa Kita completed its RM10 million acquisition of the entire stake in KT System on July 31, consolidating the company's results into the group starting in August.
The acquisition, first announced in April, marked Jasa Kita's first major corporate move since Kintan Prima Sdn Bhd emerged as its majority shareholder in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The deal was funded mainly through internally generated funds.
Iskandar said KT System provides Jasa Kita with an established technical platform, allowing the group to expand in the sector without having to build the capabilities from scratch.
"This KT acquisition creates synergy and serves as a strategic fit by combining KT's established technical capabilities with Jasa Kita's longer-term ambition to build a broader engineering platform in the power infrastructure and utilities space," he added.
KT System provides inspection, testing, commissioning and maintenance services for electrical systems serving transmission and distribution networks.
It also undertakes indoor and outdoor electrical works, as well as consulting and management services for the power sector.
The company is licensed by the Energy Commission to carry out testing and commissioning works of up to 500 kilovolts.
It is registered with the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia, the Contractor Service Centre and the Ministry of Finance Ministry.
Its project track record includes work for Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, Petronas, ABB, Siemens, Nur Power, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Energy Bhd.
Jasa Kita is also targeting recurring work such as preventive maintenance, asset-health monitoring and remote monitoring of substations and other critical electrical assets.
Iskandar said the immediate priority was to strengthen and optimise KT System's existing capabilities before gradually widening its scope to more complex power infrastructure and grid-related projects.
Longer term, the group expects demand to be supported by artificial intelligence data centres, renewable energy projects, battery energy storage systems, new generation capacity and smart-grid development as Malaysia upgrades its electricity infrastructure.
