Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun a major overhaul of their support staff ahead of the 2027 season, parting ways with several long-serving members, including batting coach Mike Hussey and bowling coach Eric Simons. The changes come weeks after the franchise appointed former India pacer Zaheer Khan as head coach, replacing Stephen Fleming.Hussey, who joined CSK as batting coach in 2018 after playing six seasons for the franchise, will not continue in the role from IPL 2027.“From the very first season in 2008, you have been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings family,” CSK said on their social media handles while announcing the decision to part ways with Hussey.“Your journey in Yellow has been defined not just by the runs you scored and the players you mentored, but by the dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment you brought to this franchise over the years.“Your place in our history will forever remain special, Hussmeister. Once a Super King, always a Super King,” the statement read.

The Super Kings have also officially announced their decision to part ways with bowling coach Eric Simons. As reported earlier by TimesofIndia.com, former India pacer Mohit Sharma is set to join Zaheer's support staff as the new bowling coach.

Assistant coach Rajiv Kumar and fielding coach James Foster will also leave the backroom staff ahead of the 2027 season.

The franchise has further decided not to retain physio Tommy Simsek and strength and conditioning coach Gregory King.Meanwhile, former England spinner Gareth Batty has joined CSK as an assistant coach. Batty, 49, played nine Tests, 10 ODIs and one T20I for England. He is familiar with Zaheer, having worked with him during their time at English county Worcestershire.CSK's changes come after three seasons in which the franchise failed to match its past success. Since winning the IPL title in 2023, the team has finished fifth in 2024, 10th in 2025 and eighth in 2026.The team's performances led to the end of its long association with Fleming, who has since taken charge of England's Test team. Zaheer has replaced the New Zealander as head coach, with IPL 2027 set to be his first assignment with CSK.
