Marvel's Wolverine review round-up: What's the Metacritic score?

Translate

One of the most hyped-up games of 2026, Marvel's Wolverine, is almost here, but what have the critics said?

It's got a lot to live up to, following up on the incredible Spider-Man games from developer Insomniac Games.

Without the benefit of web slinging to carry you across the game, it's a tighter, more linear experience – so, how has that worked out?

Here's what the critics think about Marvel's Wolverine.

At the time of writing, Marvel's Wolverine has scored a 'Generally Favourable' Metascore of 78.

Considering the Insomniac Spider-Man games all got scores of 85 and above, that will no doubt come as a bit of a disappointment for many players.

Marvel's Wolverine review round-up

As well as our own review, we've put together a list of reviews from other outlets to give you a better idea of what the consensus is among critics when it comes to Wolverine.

IGN – 6/10

"Just like its hero’s adamantium core, Marvel’s Wolverine is built of sturdy stuff – it just fails to layer something special atop its initially satisfying action, which wears thin well before the conclusion as a result. I wish there was more variety, as the combat shows its hand early on and the level design plays it safe more often than not. That means this 15-hour campaign is largely carried by its story, which, while not revolutionary, is an enjoyable tale with good character work at times and a strong portrayal of X-Men’s lead. Marvel’s Wolverine is okay, just a step or two below Insomniac’s other superhero efforts." – Simon Cardy

GamesRadar+ – 6/10

"Marvel's Wolverine is a surprisingly average game let down by basic combat, a messy story, and the whelming feeling it could have all been a lot better. It's an enjoyable enough experience but one that lacks the depth, nuance and variety you'd expect." – Leon Hurley

Eurogamer – 3/5

"Wolverine's characterisation is a bright spot in this otherwise underwhelming, old-school romp that reminds us how far action games have come." – Chris Tapsell

Destructoid – 8/10

"Another well-made narrative-driven superhero story from Insomniac Games shines as an awesome adventure for a very different iconic Marvel character. Its sometimes-repetitive combat cadence aside, Marvel's Wolverine is an epic AAA action-packed adventure chock full of fun, intrigue, and exciting Marvel universe references." – Scott Duwe

Game Informer – 8.5/10

"Insomniac’s latest action opus is beautiful to look at and listen to, and it plays like a dream. Whether you’re a fan of the wily mutant lead or you simply gravitate to taut, tightly animated combat like what you’d find in God of War or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Wolverine is an intense and unrelenting ride. It may not hit a lot of notes, but like Logan himself, it nails the vitals where it counts." – Matt Miller

Push Square – 8/10

"Marvel’s Wolverine ends the open-world streak at Insomniac for an intentional and linear superhuman title that revels in its gory, intense combat system. The campaign structured around it can be overly restrictive and the story quite dull, but as a mission guides you from one fight to the next, it lets the bloodshed do the talking. With superb visuals, amazing character performances, and nice location variety, Marvel’s Wolverine sheds its flaws for an endlessly enjoyable superhero experience." – Liam Croft

Dualshockers – 8.5/10

"Marvel's Wolverine is a great addition to Insomniac Games' Marvel catalog, with a fantastic story that slowly uncovers Logan's trauma in clever and fascinating ways. The combat is some of the best the developer has put out, delivering nonstop, adrenaline-inducing action that will keep players hooked from beginning to end. While the game is too linear in parts, to the point where it can feel like you're simply progressing through a corridor from one fight to the next, the straightforward nature of the design isn't enough to ruin the overall experience. Ultimately, Marvel's Wolverine is a fun, blood-soaked journey that will have you feeling like a badass while also tugging at your heartstrings." – Christian Bognar
