Star Wars and The Woman King actor John Boyega has revealed that his wife Tae Heckard gave birth "some time" ago, as he shared a heartwarming post on Instagram.

Boyega was profiled in a piece from The Guardian published earlier this month, in which he mentioned that he has a son "on the way".

That piece has started to gain traction online, and in response to the chatter about him becoming a father, Boyega has revealed that it has already happened.

The star shared a series of photos of his wider family, as well as a black-and-white boomerang of him cradling his little one, on his social page.

In the caption, he wrote: "Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now but thank you for all the well wishes.

"Also my sister is about to pop! Wish her well too! Back to feeding this big baby!"

"Praise God!!!!! I love you both…. You guys are amazing already great parents and now it's new favor and new blessings!!!!!! Congratulations on the new angel", commented Tyrese Gibson, who also joked: "Jon, sir you are applying a lot of pressure for a brother like me!!!!!!!!!! Yikes!!!! Lol."

Actors Teyonah Parris, Karan Ashley and Amber Riley, plus comedians Kevin Fredericks and Loni Love, were among those sending their love and congratulations in the comments.

The Guardian piece about Boyega focuses on the new documentary that he appears in, Damilola: The Untold Story.

The BBC Two programme focuses on the killing of a 10-year-old boy in London which sent shockwaves across the country in the year 2000.

As one of Damilola Taylor's friends and one of the last people to see him alive, Boyega said: "It's one of those films I wouldn't watch multiple times because of my personal relationship to it, but it's definitely a film I will refer to.

"When my child comes of age, I will show him this film. You need to know the realities of your lineage."

Damilola: The Untold Story is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
