EastEnders actor Danny Walters announces engagement - as former co-stars react

Former EastEnders star Danny Walters has announced that he is engaged to his girlfriend of five years, Maddi Faircloth, and shared a photo from the beachside proposal to his Instagram.

In the picture, Danny is seen on one knee next to a candlelit dinner table, with hanging lights and even more candles illuminating the path to really set the romantic mood.

"Guess you’re stuck with me now," he wrote in the caption, also thanking the Mayia Exclusive Resort & Spa in Rhodes for helping him set it up.

Plenty of Danny's former EastEnders co-stars reacted in the comments, with Molly Rainford, Clair Norris, Diane Parish, Emma Barton and Jaden Ladega all sending their congratulations.

"Beaming for you both brother," wrote Aaron Thiara, while Danielle Harold wrote: "Ahhh so beautiful congratulations to you both."

Shona McGarty and Mazz Murray both simply commented with a lot of emojis.

Danny played Keanu Taylor on EastEnders between 2017 and 2020, and returned for another stint across 2022 and 2023. His biggest storylines were his age-gap affair with Sharon Watts and death at the hands of The Six, which was teased a year in advance.

He had to keep the fact that his character was the victim secret for a whole year, and admitted that it was "extremely difficult" to keep quiet.

"I feel like I've been very deceitful to my friends and my family (laughs) and have made many excuses!" he said. "But, I wanted the storyline to have as much impact as possible for the audience."

Outside of the soap, Danny and Maddi welcomed daughter Autumn in March of last year.

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
