How Florence Pugh "absolutely horrified" Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart on Avengers: Doomsday set

Avengers: Doomsday is now only a few months away from hitting the big screen, with several Marvel fans preparing for the superhero adventure by watching Avengers: Endgame Encore at the cinema.

While the plot of Doomsday has largely been kept under wraps, the film boasts a stellar cast, with Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Robert Downey Jr being some of the names attached.

Another big star is Florence Pugh, who will be reprising her role as Yelena Belova from Black Widow and Thunderbolts*, and the actor recently revealed that she "totally horrified" co-stars Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Pugh recalled that she was asked by McKellen about her first theatre role, with the actor subsequently explaining that she was yet to appear on the stage for a role.

Pugh noted that McKellen was in a state of shock, with the actor recalling that he was "absolutely horrified" by her statement. He apparently then gestured to Stewart, who is also known for his stage work.

Pugh, who said that she "horrified" the pair, added that appearing on the stage was an ambition of hers, though she did stress that it wouldn't be a musical. Explaining why, she said: "I don't have the training. I don't think my voice will ever be big enough."

It remains to be seen how Yelena's arc in Doomsday will take shape, but fans can prepare for the blockbuster by watching Avengers: Endgame Encore, which has some extra footage and new mid-credit scenes.

Directing duo The Russo Brothers had previously stressed that the re-release would be "required viewing" ahead of the upcoming blockbuster, with the pair saying that it would "connect the story of the two movies".

"There's a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out," added the pair, who also helmed Avengers: Infinity War prior to Endgame.

Avengers: Doomsday is released in cinemas on 18 December.
