Thunderstorms, heavy rain forecast for Terengganu, Sarawak until 9am

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in parts of Terengganu and Sarawak until 9am today.

In a statement this morning, MetMalaysia said the warning covers Kemaman in Terengganu.

In Sarawak, the areas affected are Sri Aman, Samarahan (Sebuyau), Betong, Kapit (Song), Sarikei, Mukah and Bintulu.

The warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall exceeding 20mm an hour that are occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour.

Thunderstorm warnings are short-term warnings valid for no more than six hours.
