Liza Soberano joins Golden Globes Impact Prize jury at Venice Film Festival

Liza Soberano has been named to the jury of the Golden Globes Impact Prize for Documentary, which will be presented by the Artemis Rising Foundation during the upcoming Venice Film Festival.

Variety reported Soberano’s participation. As part of the jury, the Filipino actress will help recognize a documentary feature in the festival’s official selection, whether in or out of competition, that demonstrates the power of documentary filmmaking to shed light on important social issues through compelling storytelling. 

“I’m honored to serve on this jury, because celebrating documentary filmmakers isn’t only about recognizing extraordinary talent; it’s where the future of cinema is heading,” Soberano said in a statement.

Soberano will serve alongside Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne; Oscar-winning producer and Artemis Rising Foundation founder Regina K. Scully; Oscar-winning producer and Impact Partners co-founder Geralyn White Dreyfous; and Think-Film Impact Production founder and CEO Danielle Turkov Wilson.

The winning documentary will receive a $10,000 cash prize from Artemis Rising Foundation.

The Golden Globes, Artemis Rising Foundation and Think-Film Impact Production first partnered on a documentary prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival before expanding the initiative to Venice.

The 83rd Venice Film Festival will run from Sept. 2 to 12.

Soberano is currently pursuing a career in Hollywood after making a name in Philippine television and films through projects such as “Forevermore,” “Dolce Amore,” “My Ex and Whys” and “Alone/Together,” among others. 

Soberano made her Hollywood debut in Zelda Williams’ horror comedy “Lisa Frankenstein” in 2024, where she appeared alongside Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.

After lending her voice as the lead character Alexandra Trese in the Netflix animated series “Trese” in 2021, Soberano is expanding her voice acting work through the upcoming DreamWorks Animation feature, “Forgotten Island.”

The film, directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado and produced by Mark Swift, follows Raissa (Soberano) and Jo, voiced by Grammy-winning artist H.E.R., after they are transported to the mysterious island of Nakali, a world filled with Filipino mythological creatures. 

“Forgotten Island” also features an all-star Filipino and Filipino-American cast including Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto and Jo Koy, among others.

Soberano is currently in the Philippines with H.E.R. and the “Forgotten Island” filmmakers for promotional events ahead of the film’s release on Sept. 23. They met with the press on Tuesday morning, Aug. 25, in Taguig City for an exclusive question and answer panel. Later that day, they met with Filipino fans at a mall in Pasay City for a fan event.

The Philippine promotion comes after a busy international campaign for the animated film. Soberano and H.E.R. appeared with members of the “Forgotten Island” team at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where they discussed the project alongside the filmmakers and fellow cast member Dave Franco. /ra
