The opening round of fixtures of the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 concluded on Wednesday.
At the end of four days of play, Mumbai, Punjab, and Bengal came away with wins, while Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and defending champion Jammu and Kashmir settled for draws.
Mumbai, the most successful team in Ranji history with 42 titles, defeated Chandigarh by an innings and 155 runs. Tushar Deshpande was the standout performer with match figures of 7/54, while captain Siddhesh Lad, Tanush Kotian, and Mohit Avasthi scored fifties.

On a wicket that assisted the spinners, Tanay Thyagarajan and Gangam Ankithreddy combined for 14 wickets to skittle Tripura out of contention.
Mumbai and Hyderabad earned seven points each with their performances. Meanwhile, Bengal defeated Delhi by nine wickets to also get off to a winning start. Abhishek Porel and Sandip Kumar Gharami scored centuries, while Mohammed Shami took a four-wicket haul.
Elsewhere, South Indian heavyweights Karnataka and Tamil Nadu played out draws against Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan respectively. Both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were on the backfoot for most of their respective games, but did enough to come away with one point each.
Defending champion Jammu and Kashmir was lucky to escape with a draw after being reduced to 71/6 while chasing Madhya Pradesh’s target of 326. Persistent rain and bad light after Lunch helped Auqib Nabi’s side salvage a draw.
