Yacht gutted by fierce blaze off Double Bay

Translate

A yacht has burst into flames off Sydney’s eastern suburbs, sending clouds of black smoke billowing across the harbour and prompting a co-ordinated emergency response.

The Port Authority of NSW said in a statement that it had responded on Saturday to “a fire onboard a recreational vessel moored at Double Bay”.

Emergency crews raced to the scene and doused the flames with water from multiple directions after Fire and Rescue received a series of Triple Zero calls about the fire shortly before midday.

The fire tore through the luxury cruiser, gutting it.

“A vessel with firefighting capabilities was deployed,” the Port Authority said. “There were no passengers onboard and no reported injuries.”

The Port Authority worked with NSW Police, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Maritime to put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
