Lord Of The Rings Officially Replaces The Fellowship In New War Of The Ring-Era Release

Translate

Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.

The era of middling Lord of the Rings games, much less barely any Lord of the Rings games at all, may finally be over. The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria and Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game were spectacular in their own way, to be fair, particularly in terms of there actually being interesting gameplay genres explored by the IP, but it wasn’t until Aspyr’s Lord of the Rings: War in the North re-release launched that it became clear how bright The Lord of the Rings’ future is now in the realm of video games.

Warhorse’s open-world Middle-earth RPG is a stunningly bright light on the horizon, for instance, yet there’s now quite a real possibility that we’ll have Aspyr-led re-releases and/or remasters of classic Lord of the Rings games for years to come. In the meantime, to commemorate The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition’s unanticipated revival, fans also have a special Deluxe edition to look forward to.

Per its website, physical distributor Limited Run Games has unveiled that preorders are officially live for a Deluxe edition of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition. Priced at $112.99 USD, the Deluxe edition includes:

  • Standard edition of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition with a slipcase and a Wayfinder’s Ledger booklet
  • Steelcase
  • Cloth map
  • Weathered letter with a foreword penned by Jed Brophy

Anyone hoping to nab themselves a Deluxe edition of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition shouldn’t wait too long, though. Pre-orders for it have a limited window, between today and December 13 (at 11:59 PM EST, specifically), meaning you only have a couple of months to secure yours.

No release date is available, with the website merely stating that it is “coming soon.” Not only is it fantastic that Limited Run Games champions physical releases and preservation, but it’s also maybe a hopeful sign that any subsequent Lord of the Rings re-releases from Aspyr will receive their own Deluxe edition soon thereafter.

As long as there is interest and demand for such physical goodies, at least, and pre-orders may determine whether or not other classic Lord of the Rings games get the same treatment. It’d be massively disappointing if fans were finally graced with a re-release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and it didn’t have something like this, but it’s no less incredible for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North.
