Nagoya (ANTARA) - Indonesia finished eighth at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games with 15 gold, 21 silver and 37 bronze medals, more than doubling its gold-medal target.

Its 73-medal haul surpassed the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ targets of seven golds, eight silvers and 17 bronzes, while meeting its goal of a top-10 finish.

Indonesia’s final gold came from the mixed team BC1/BC2 boccia squad — Muhammad Syafa, Gischa Zayana and Felix Ardi Yudha — which beat Thailand 11-3 on Saturday, October 24.

The win made boccia Indonesia’s most successful sport at the Games, with four gold medals.

Earlier, Handayani won the women’s individual BC1 title, Gischa Zayana took women’s individual BC2 gold, and Felix Ardi Yudha won the men’s individual BC2 event.

Para-athletics, para-badminton and para-swimming each contributed three gold medals.

In para-athletics, I Kadek Dwi Purwana Yasa won the men’s F57 discus, Karisma Evi Tiarani the women’s 100 meters T63, and Partin Muhlisin the men’s 100 meters T63.

Indonesia’s three para-badminton golds came from Muhammad Al Imran and Suryo Nugroho, Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila, and Subhan and Rina Marlina.

In the pool, Maulana Rifky Yavianda won the men’s 100-meter backstroke and freestyle S12 titles, while Abdil Majid Rahman took the men’s 100-meter breaststroke SB7 gold.

Indonesia’s other two golds came from Muhammad Fadli Immammuddin in para-cycling and Barce Layaba and Leli Marlina in para-table tennis doubles.

The contingent also won silver on the final day through its mixed team para-powerlifting squad, featuring Ni Nengah Widiasih, Hilman and A. Hadi.

Indonesia finished one place behind Southeast Asian rival Thailand, which ranked seventh with 19 gold, 40 silver and 66 bronze medals.

China topped the standings with 207 gold, 117 silver and 111 bronze medals. Japan placed second with 64 gold, 60 silver and 62 bronze, followed by Uzbekistan with 45, 49 and 51, respectively.

Despite beating its targets, Indonesia fell short of its Hangzhou 2022 performance, when it finished sixth with 29 gold, 30 silver and 36 bronze medals.

Indonesia sent 103 athletes to Nagoya across 12 sports. Para-chess, one of the country’s traditional medal sources, was absent from this edition’s program.
