Enzo Maresca breaks silence as Manchester City are found guilty of 114 charges

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has spoken publicly for the first time following the club’s guilty verdict in the Premier League’s financial rules case, insisting that he remains calm and fully trusts the club’s leadership.

What is the 114 charges against Manchester City about?

An independent commission found Manchester City guilty of 114 charges relating to alleged breaches of financial regulations, covering the period between 2009 and 2018. The verdict has raised questions about the club’s future, with potential sporting sanctions still to be determined.

However, Maresca has urged the club to remain united and focus on what happens on the pitch as they prepare to return to Premier League action.

He said,

“Personally, I’m very calm, to be honest. The club has been quite clear. We trust the club completely. We understand the noise, but the focus for us is just what we can control, and we can control just the football side.”

The City boss also stressed the importance of unity between the club’s owners, management, players and supporters, describing it as a major factor behind the organisation’s success over the past 15 years. Maresca insisted that the players are not distracted by the controversy and remain focused on their upcoming fixtures.

He added,

“The feeling is fantastic, to be honest. The players are excited for the next two games. They know their profession,n and they know that the noise is there, but they don’t care too much about the noise.”

Manchester City have maintained their innocence and launched an appeal against the commission’s ruling. The club has challenged the findings, arguing that the judgment contains significant errors.

However, the outcome of the appeal and any potential punishment are still to be resolved; Maresca’s immediate priority is keeping his players focused on football amid the uncertainty surrounding the club.
