Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Luzon on Wednesday afternoon, driven by the ongoing effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat, the state weather bureau said.

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Luzon on Wednesday afternoon, driven by the ongoing effects of the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the state weather bureau said.

In a weather advisory issued at 2 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the following areas will experience intense to torrential rains with lightning and strong winds, which may persist within the next two hours.

  • Tarlac (Tarlac City, Pura, Victoria, San Jose, Capas, Mayantoc, Santa Ignacia, Gerona, La Paz, and Concepcion)
  • Nueva Ecija (San Antonio, Jaen, Zaragoza, Licab, Quezon, Aliaga, Guimba, Pantabangan, San Jose, Munoz, Rizal, Bongabon, Cabanatuan, Santa Rosa, Talavera, Santo Domingo, Llanera, General Mamerto Natividad, Palayan, Laur, and Gabaldon) 
  • Zambales (Botolan, Cabangan, San Felipe, Iba, Palauig, Masinloc, San Narciso, San Marcelino, San Antonio, Castillejos, and Subic)

Meanwhile, the following areas may experience heavy to intense rains with lightning and strong winds, which may persist within the next two hours, brought by the southwest monsoon.

  • Bataan
  • Rizal (Jala-Jala, Tanay, Antipolo, San Mateo, Baras, Teresa, Morong, Pililla, Cardona, and Binangonan)
  • Pampanga (Porac, Angeles, Floridablanca, Mabalacat, Magalang, Arayat, Lubao, Macabebe, Masantol, and Sasmuan)
  • Bulacan (San Miguel, Dona Remedios Trinidad)
  • Batangas(Nasugbu, Lian, Tuy, Balayan, Calatagan, Calaca, Lemery, Taal, San Luis, Bauan, Mabini, and Tingloy)
  • Cavite (Ternate, Maragondon, and Magallanes) 
  • Laguna (Santa Maria, Mabitac, Pakil, Pangil, Siniloan, and Famy) 

Pagasa earlier said in its 5 a.m weather advisory that the southwest monsoon will bring occasional heavy rains to large portions of Luzon, while fair weather is forecast in the Visayas and Mindanao. /gsg
