Micah Parsons Sparks Debate With His Blunt Take On The Officiating

Jake Bates kicked the winner, yet nobody on the Green Bay side wanted to talk about it. The Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 20-17 on Sunday night, and the final seconds felt almost like an afterthought. Anger over two roughing the passer flags took over the conversation. Micah Parsons fired off a post on X. Tom Brady shook his head on the Fox broadcast. Packers fans settled in for hours of replays. Whether the officials protected a quarterback or handed Detroit a gift depends on who you ask, and Green Bay answers loudly.

Karl Brooks And The Hit On Jared Goff That Gave The Detroit Lions New Life

Late in the fourth quarter, Jared Goff found tight end Sam LaPorta for an 18-yard gain. Packers lineman Karl Brooks got to Goff after the throw, and a yellow flag hit the turf. The 15 yards, marked from the Detroit 45-yard line, kept the Lions moving.

Earlier, Brenton Cox Jr. had been flagged for a collision with Goff. Head coach Matt LaFleur did not hide his displeasure. Accounts of the night disagree on which call set off the loudest reaction, but the Fox booth left no doubt about how it felt.

Brady spent 23 seasons as the player these rules protect, so his reaction stood out. “No, my goodness. What is that?! There's no way!… That's definitely not roughing the passer!” Fox rules analyst Dean Blandino backed him up. “That's teach-tape tackle. That's not roughing the passer.”

Micah Parsons Leads The Green Bay Packers' Case Against NFL Officiating

Parsons rushes the passer for a living, and he took his complaint straight to X. “@NFL @NFLOfficiating let's just go to flag football if every time a QB gets touched it's roughing the passer!”

He had company. Barstool Sports writer Eric Hubbs posted, “I genuinely don't know what Brooks is supposed to do here.” Former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert went further. “Refs should NEVER change the outcome of a game. Replace them with robots at this point. Idc.”

Green Bay cannot pin everything on the whistle. The Lions piled up 415 yards to the Packers' 324 and collected 26 first downs to 17. The Packers converted only 5 of 15 third downs and took eight penalties for 81 yards. Detroit was also sharper through the air, at 9 yards per pass against 5.7.

Still, the pattern bothers Packers fans. Against the Dallas Cowboys, cornerback Carrington Valentine picked off Dak Prescott with 7:44 left in the fourth quarter. A roughing flag on defensive end Lukas Van Ness erased the interception and tacked on 15 yards. NFL Pro analyst Brett Kollmann summed up the mood. “That's the most un-American roughing the passer call in history.”
