Two individuals were shot dead at a suspected drug den in Barangay 194, Tondo, Manila, at around 2 a.m. on Friday.

In a “24 Oras” report by Jhomer Apresto, CCTV footage showed five masked men walking along Molave Street. One was wearing a bulletproof vest, while two were carrying firearms.

Four of the men entered the victims’ street, while the fifth headed in a different direction.

Authorities identified one of the victims as alias “Paulo,” while the other remains unidentified. Residents said they heard at least 10 gunshots in the neighborhood.

Barangay Chairwoman Imelda Paraiso said residents had long complained about Paulo’s house, which was allegedly being used as a drug den.

“Eh kasi ito, pot session naman kasi talaga ‘yan. ‘Yan ang malaking problema namin dito. Magaling sila makipagtago eh, di ba nilagyan pa rin nila ng gate tapos pag may pupuntang mga pulis walang tao. Kumbaga, dis oras siguro ng gabi nila ginagawa ’yon,” Paraiso said.

(The house was allegedly being used for drug sessions and had been a major problem in the area. Those involved were good at hiding. The house had a gate and that no one would be there whenever police arrived. These activities were likely carried out late at night.)

Paraiso also said she saw Paulo the night before the shooting and noticed that he appeared to be arguing with someone.

“Para siyang nagagalit, may kausap siya doon. Kaya nagulat ako namatay na siya ngayon, eh kakakita ko lang kagabi nakahubad siya eh,” Paraiso said.

(He looked angry while talking to someone there. That is why I was shocked to learn that he had died, as I had just seen him shirtless the night before.)

According to Paulo’s partner, they were inside their room when the shooting happened. She said she did not see the suspects’ faces and that her partner had no known enemies.

Police are continuing to track down the four men who entered the victims’ street.

Meanwhile, the fifth individual, who was seen walking with the group before heading in a different direction, was brought to the police station to give a statement. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/VBL, GMA News
