Manibela asks Marcos for jeepney fare hike on his birthday

MANILA, Philippines — Transport group Manibela on Monday wished President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. a happy birthday by requesting for a fare increase for jeepney drivers.

Marcos celebrated his 68th birthday on Sunday, a day before Manibela mounted its transport strike to urge government action on rising petroleum prices.

“Sa ating Pangulo, happy birthday sa inyo. Sana yung fare increase, ipa-birthday niyo na sa mga tsuper,” Manibela chairperson Mar Valbuena said at the launch of transport strike along Commonwealth Avenue near Philcoa in Quezon City.

The transport strike began on Monday and is set to end on Tuesday.

Diesel prices may reportedly rise by P2 to P2.50 per liter, while gasoline prices may likewise rise by P4.50 to P5 per liter this week, the second week of fuel price increases. /jpv
