Emmerdale star Claire King has promised a huge Halloween storyline for her legendary character Kim Tate.

Kim is currently oblivious to the fact that she has a long-lost daughter in the village who's plotting against her – but secrets in Soapland always come out.

Speaking live on This Morning today, Claire discussed the recent twist that Kim is the mum of the village's new police character DS Thea Ramsden.

"She's hounding Kim because she's being vengeful," Claire noted. "Kim doesn't know yet, but she will find out!

"It's Halloween – so something happens at Halloween and they find out."

Viewers know that Thea is determined to destroy Kim, who gave her up for adoption when she was a newborn baby.

Thea is in cahoots with her friend Serena Sugden and has been snooping around Home Farm to gather evidence that she can use to bring down her target.

Meanwhile, tonight's episode sees Kim exchange some barbed remarks with Patsy Kensit's character Sadie King, who has just returned to the village.

"We haven't had a lot together," Claire admitted. "We're kind of on parallel lines at the moment – and she's working really hard as well. But we're not crossing that much. I've no doubt that we will do, but we've had a bit of [Dynasty's] Alexis and Krystle in the village.

"We share a dressing room as well. We're like 'do you remember this in 1983?' and the others are going 'I wasn't even born then!'"

Claire also shut down rumours that she could retire from acting soon, insisting that she's staying put as Kim for the foreseeable future.

Asked if she plans to step back, Claire clarified: "No! Apparently it was all over saying I'm retiring. I think I made a comment of 'oh we've dropped an episode a week, so I'll look at that as semi-retirement!'"

Promising that she's as busy as ever, Claire said: "You've constantly got a script in your hands. Last night was the first time I didn't, because they don't come out until today.

"I get reams of dialogue. We get them two weeks prior to actually filming them, but of course during those two weeks, you're actually filming another 50 scenes. And it's relentless at the moment because we've got full-on stories."

The interview also saw Claire honoured as the first ever inductee into the Inside Soap Awards hall of fame ahead of next week's star-studded ceremony in Manchester.
