Negeri Sembilan MB coy over coerced signing allegation, claims ‘overtaken by events’

SEREMBAN, Sept 24 — Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim dodged questions today regarding his police report over claims he was coerced into signing a proclamation on the position of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, claiming the matter has been “overtaken by events”.

Asked by reporters for an update on the investigation during a press conference here, Ismail declined to elaborate further on the status of his report.

“Oh, that was a long time ago, overtaken by events. I have no comment,” he said.

“There is nothing more. It has been overtaken by events,” he added.

Ismail had previously confirmed that he signed the controversial proclamation regarding Tuanku Muhriz’s throne, but asserted that he had done so under duress and against his will.

He subsequently lodged a formal police report on September 8 to trigger an official investigation into the alleged coercion.

On September 15, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that police had received two separate reports regarding the alleged forced signing and were in the process of classifying the case to establish the proper scope and direction of the investigation.
