10-hour water outage set to hit Johannesburg suburb on Tuesday

Johannesburg Water has announced a 10-hour planned water supply interruption that will affect residents in Village Deep, south of the Johannesburg CBD, later this month.
The utility will shut off water supply on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, from 7:00 until 17:00, to carry out planned maintenance in Region F.
Johannesburg Water shared the notice in its daily water supply system status update on 16 October.
Streets affected by the Johannesburg water outage
According to Johannesburg Water, residents and businesses on the following streets will have no water during the maintenance:
- Eloff Street
- Bitcon Road
- Inglestone Road
- Baldwin Road
- Wright-Boag Road
- Colyn Road
The utility said its teams will tie a newly installed 110mm water pipeline into the existing 100mm water reticulation network.
Johannesburg Water explained that the work will ensure the successful integration and commissioning of the upgraded infrastructure.
The utility said the project will bring improved service delivery, continuity of water supply and safety to customers once complete.
How residents can prepare for the water outage
Since the interruption will last for most of the working day, households in Village Deep may want to store enough clean water for drinking, cooking and basic hygiene before 7:00 on Tuesday.
Residents can fill bottles, buckets and containers the night before, and keep stored drinking water covered and in a cool place.
Filling a bucket or two for flushing toilets can also help households get through the day without running taps.
Businesses in the area that rely on water, such as restaurants, salons and car washes, may need to adjust their operations or make alternative arrangements for the day.
Once the supply returns, residents may notice air in the pipes or slightly discoloured water at first. Letting the tap run for a short while usually helps clear it.
