Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ death: MacG apologises over ‘disgusting’ joke

Podcast and Chill host MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho opened the latest episode of the podcast with an apology to the family of the late Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo after making a joke. This comes after his co-host Sol Phenduka also apologised for his comments.

MACG’S ‘DISGUSTING’ JOKE ABOUT ELIZABETH ‘TSONTSO’

Sol Phenduka and MacG are often labelled misogynistic for the comments made on their podcast titled Podcast and Chill. The comments made about the late Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who went missing in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park after going on a run. Her body was later identified at the Germiston mortuary on 14 September. She is one of 10 women whose dead bodies were found in Johannesburg in the last two months.

On an episode of Podcast and Chill, MacG and Sol Phenduka poked fun of this… which led to their “jokes” being labelled “disgusting”.

“You’d think the lady would keep on running,” said MacG.

While Phenduka added a joke about someone seeing the number on a runner’s bib.

A clip from the podcast was shared onto X, formerly known as Twitter, and described as “utterly disgusting.” Take a look…

“I honestly don’t find this funny. I’m utterly disgusted. I’m especially disappointed in Sol. As for MacG , I’m not shocked that he would make fun of the Kempton Park situation on his huge podcast. His platform was built on belittling and bullying Black women,” wrote @destiny_ndlovu.

MACG APOLOGISES FOR THE JOKE

MacG apologised at the opening of the latest epsiode of the show on Monday 21 September.

“I’m not trying to make an excuse for what we did. I mean, as broadcasters, myself and Sol, as seasoned broadcasters, we should have done better. We should. We know better. We do,” he said.

“Even apart from just the fact that she ended up being brutally murdered, just her missing, you know, it wasn’t nothing to find any source of humour from,” he continued.

SOL PHENDUKA ALSO ISSUES APOLOGY

Phenduka previously apologised for the joke.

“I made an unfortunate pun or joke. At the time, we laughed. But it’s not funny anymore. I want to profusely apologise to South Africans, to chillers and to her family,” he said in a video.

“Deriving a joke, be it targeting someone else, about a situation involving a missing person, is distasteful. It is a traumatic situation. Especially in the context of South Africa and the high femicide that we have”.
