Former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant says a Southlake police officer pointed a gun at him in front of his two daughters Sunday. Bryant was cited for assault after a confrontation with two men.

Southlake police responded around 12:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, to reports of a fight involving multiple people in a retail parking lot in the 2200 block of FM 1709, according to an Oct. 26 news release from the Southlake Police Department.

Southlake is a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb about 25 miles northwest of Dallas.

Several callers reported a possible weapon, prompting officers to draw their firearms as a precaution when they arrived, according to police. Several people were temporarily detained during the investigation, but no firearms were recovered at the scene.

The confrontation began as a traffic dispute near Kimball Avenue after Bryant said another driver cut him off, according to the release.

Both parties went to a nearby parking lot, where the argument escalated into an alleged assault.

Bryant was cited for assault by contact, a Class C misdemeanor, and released at the scene, according to police.

Video Bryant provided to sports outlet OutKick shows the former Cowboys receiver lying on the ground in handcuffs alongside several other men as officers responded, according to WFAA. Bryant's girlfriend, who was there with his two daughters, recorded the video.

Bryant also said one of the men threatened to shoot him before police arrived. An officer is seen holding a rifle in the video.

Southlake police provided WFAA with a written statement but declined an interview.

Bryant, a first-round pick by Dallas in the 2010 NFL Draft, became one of the Cowboys' most productive receivers during his eight seasons with the team, from 2010 to 2017. He earned three Pro Bowl selections and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2014, when he led the NFL with 16 touchdown receptions.
