Star Trek commemorative coins unveiled by Royal Mint - here's where you can buy them

Six decades since the series was beamed onto TV screens for the first time, Star Trek is getting the royal treatment – and you can own it for yourself.

Royal Mint is marking the 60th anniversary of Star Trek in spectacular style by releasing two styles of commemorative coins. It marks the company's first ever collaboration with the hit sci-fi series and the collection spans four 50p coins in two designs.

The first features the iconic Vulcan salute next to the Star Trek logo with the number 60. The classic phrase "Live Long & Prosper" completes the design.

This coin is available to purchase today in two formats. Colour will cost you £29.95 while nickel (listed as Brilliant Uncirculated Coin) is priced at £19.95.

The second features four spacecraft spanning different eras from the show: U.S.S Voyager NCC-74656, the U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701, Enterprise – NCC-1701-D and the Klingon Bird of Prey.

Similarly to the Vulcan coin, this one also features 'Star Trek 60' to finish the design. Fans have slightly longer to wait for this one, though. Royal Mint have listed the release date for November, although it's available to pre-order now.

Those wanting an even rarer collectors item can snap up the 50p Silver Proof Colour Coin, which has a limited run of just 5000 and is priced at £99.50.

Royal Mint is also releasing just 100 of the 50p Gold Proof Coins and, if you're interested, one will set you back a cool £2,495.

It's not the only iconic series to receive the Royal Mint treatment, though. Aardman also has a series of coins to mark 50 years since its inception, complete with Wallace and Gromit, while Lord of the Rings and Winnie the Pooh also have collections for their respective landmark anniversaries.

The Vulcan coins are available to buy now from £19.95, with the Spacecraft coins available to pre-order now ahead of their November release, exclusively at Royal Mint.
