The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said on Monday that it reclassified an incident in the vicinity of Sohar anchorage in Oman as an attack after confirmation that the tanker was struck by a drone.

Local authorities are assisting in the evacuation of the crew, UKMTO said, adding that damage assessment and environmental impact are unknown at the time of the update.

Separately, the Indian minister of ports, shipping and waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said in a post on X/Twitter that a tanker carrying 11 indian nationals was struck by a drone in the Sohar region of Oman.

"While nine of our Indian crew members have been successfully rescued and are safe, two Indian nationals currently remain missing. Search-and-rescue operations are actively underway by the local Coast Guard. We are continuously coordinating with all relevant authorities to fully support the ongoing rescue efforts and ensure every possible action is taken to safely locate our missing personnel," Sonowal said.
