BIS Hanoi students score above global average in 2026 IB Diploma

BIS Hanoi's Class of 2026 achieved an average International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme score of 35.15, above the global average of 30.88, with two students earning the maximum 45 points.

The 68 students in British International School Hanoi's (BIS Hanoi) Class of 2026 achieved an average score of 35.15 in this year's International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) examinations, compared with a global average of 30.88.

The results marked the ninth consecutive year that BIS Hanoi students scored above the worldwide average, according to the school.

Among the cohort, Pham Bui Gia Khanh and Ryu Seojung achieved the maximum score of 45 points.

According to WhichSchoolAdvisor, fewer than 1% of IB students worldwide achieve a perfect score.

Both students also took part in leadership, service and extracurricular activities during their time at the school.

Around one in seven students scored 40 points or higher.

The cohort recorded a Bilingual Diploma rate of 62.9%, and an average of 1.94 Core Points, which is the highest recorded by BIS Hanoi.

Core Points are awarded through the IBDP's Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE) components, with a maximum of three points. The components are designed to develop critical thinking, independent research and analytical skills.

At the school's graduation ceremony, British Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Alex Strugnell congratulated the Class of 2026.

"Schools like BIS represent the very best of international collaboration, combining academic excellence, cultural exchange, and a commitment to developing thoughtful, principled, and capable young people," Strugnell said.

"When I look at you today, I feel not only excited for your future but also optimistic about the contribution you will make to the world."

Students have received university offers from institutions including Yale University, the University of Cambridge, University College London (UCL), the University of California, Berkeley, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), King's College London, the University of Toronto, the University of Melbourne and KAIST.

Offers also came from specialist institutions including Berklee College of Music and the University of the Arts London.

BIS Hanoi has been authorized to offer the IBDP to students in Years 12 and 13 since 2016. The school provides academic and university guidance to help students develop independent learning skills, select subjects and consider university pathways.

Graduates pursue fields including medicine, engineering, business, science, humanities and creative arts.
