'Spider-Man' becomes first Hollywood film to cross Rs 500 crore in India

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has created box office history in India by crossing the Rs 500 crore mark in net collections. With this, the Tom Holland-led Marvel film has become the first Hollywood release to enter the Rs 500 crore club in India.According to the latest trade figures on sacnilk, the film has recorded Rs 500.10 crore net during its seven week run in India, across 275,291 shows, with its gross total estimated at around Rs 598.31 crore.The superhero film made a strong start at the Indian box office, collecting Rs 334.75 crore in its first week. It followed that up with Rs 108.65 crore in week two, while the third week contributed Rs 32 crore to its box office haul.The film continued to maintain its run in the subsequent weeks, collecting Rs 13.65 crore in week four, Rs 6.43 crore in week five, Rs 2.47 crore in week six and Rs 1.37 crore in week seven, thus finally hitting the Rs 500 crore mark.The milestone also makes 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' only the second film to cross Rs 500 crore net in India in 2026, following the Ranveer Singh starrer 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'. However, it must be noted that the Hindi spy drama grossed over Rs 1,800 crore during its lifetime run in theatres.

The achievement also puts the film ahead of previous major Hollywood performers in India, including 'Avatar: The Way of Water' (Rs 390-483 crore), 'Avengers: Endgame' (Rs 373-438 crore), 'Avengers: Infinity War' (Rs 227-290 crore) and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (Rs 212-257 crore), based on the respective trade estimates.Meanwhile, rumours are rife that the film will now continue its theatrical run until November, following the huge global box office haul, surpassing USD 2.4 billion. If the rumours are true, then the film's OTT release will likely be delayed until 2027.
