PNP probes Forbes Park 'akyat-bahay'

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it is investigating a break-in at an exclusive subdivision in Makati City involving a 76-year-old victim.

At a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said the incident happened around 5:20 p.m. on September 24 in Forbes Park Village where P50,000 cash and P40,000 worth of jewelry were taken.

The suspect was identified as a 25-year-old pedicab driver who was allegedly involved in a series of akyat-bahay activities in other villages in the city.

Authorities are coordinating with the private security agency responsible for the village.

Co said private subdivisions generally have their own security providers and that police do not normally patrol inside them unless called to respond to an incident.

“There's always coordination between the police and the private security force or security detail ng mga subdivisions po,” Co said.

“But suffice it to say, alam naman po natin, hindi rin basta-basta pumapasok ang mga police sa mga private subdivisions na ganito. They are provided security by their own hire na mga private firms,” he added.

Authorities are reviewing the security protocols and procedures of the subdivision’s security agency, including how the suspect was able to enter the village.

Police also said CCTV footage was available and would be part of the investigation.

The PNP said it conducts security surveys of private subdivisions to identify possible weaknesses, including vulnerable gates, walls and access points.

After the assessment, police provide recommendations to subdivision management and security agencies. —VAL, GMA News
