Four China nationals among five injured in Maran crash

MARAN: Five people, including four Chinese nationals, were injured after their four-wheel-drive vehicle lost control while overtaking a lorry at Km155 of the East Coast Expressway here yesterday.

The Toyota Hilux was being driven by a Malaysian when the crash occurred at 3.45pm. The five were taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (Hoshas) in Temerloh for treatment.

Maran police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said investigations found that the five were travelling from the Maran East Coast Rail Link office to Lanchang in Temerloh.

"The driver lost control of the Hilux while attempting to overtake a lorry, causing the vehicle to skid to the left side of the road.

"It then spun before crashing into the road divider," he said in a statement today.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000, up to 12 months in jail and an endorsement on the offender's driving licence.
