‘Enough is enough’ – NDC’s James Agbey warns of backlash over ‘abandoned’ task force

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) operative, James Agbey, has warned that the alleged neglect of the party’s electoral task force could provoke a backlash, calling their treatment after the 2024 election victory a “recipe for disaster”.
In a statement dated October 22, 2026, Mr Agbey accused the party and government of failing to address the welfare and employment concerns of operatives who helped mobilise supporters and protect ballots during the elections.
“Enough is enough,” he declared, calling for jobs, empowerment opportunities and what he described as promised placements in national security.
Mr Agbey said the concerns went beyond employment to include recognition and a meaningful voice in the party’s decision-making structures.
He argued that some operatives felt the party had relied on them as campaign mobilisers and security personnel during the election, only to sideline them after victory.
According to him, their frustration grew because some appointees who contributed little to the party’s electoral success benefited while grassroots campaign workers struggled.
“As a leader and someone who actually deployed some of these boys for electoral politics, I’m aware of their plight,” he stated, calling for an end to what he termed “disgraceful self-sabotage”.
Mr Agbey said it was particularly troubling that the party would need the same activists to strengthen its grassroots structures and mobilise support ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He warned that overlooking their grievances could weaken that support as political activity builds towards the NDC’s internal elections.
“The strength of the NDC always lies in the ability to protect its people from the savagery of capitalism. Sadly, the umbrella cannot protect its own,” he said.
Mr Agbey also alleged that some task force members had been promised national security jobs that had not materialised. The statement did not identify who made those promises or provide details of the proposed placements.
He urged party leaders and government appointees to address the complaints, warning against underestimating the resentment arising from unmet expectations.
“Let those who have ears listen to the cries of the NDC electoral task force,” he said.
