Battlestar Galactica: Cerberus & Prometheus Are Officially A Hit

Translate

James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

Battlestar Galactica might not be at the very top of the proverbial tree when it comes to sci-fi IPs, but it absolutely remains one of the more popular around, despite less regular releases than the likes of Star Trek and Star Wars. Centering on the survival of humanity after a catastrophic cybernetic attack by a race known as the Cylons, it tracks the events after as they struggle for survival in civilian spaceships.

It's a premise that isn't really replicated in any other properties in the genre, and one that has led to some genuinely excellent adaptations since the first series debuted in 1978. The reboot from the mid-2000s is probably the best known out there these days, and there are still plenty of exciting releases available that are tied to the franchise, which you can easily pick up as a fan.

Over on the Master Replicas website, you can pick up models of the Prometheus and Cerberus for your collection, both of which serve as the most highly detailed renditions of the ship that you'll find anywhere. In sharing descriptions for the ships, the manufacturer posted the following:

"In the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica, we were told there were twelve battlestars, though only eight were ever named on screen. Three more battlestar names — Solaria, Cerberus and Prometheus — were waiting in the wings, intended to join the Colonial fleet had the series continued. The Battlestar Prometheus is being made in a limited edition of just 500. One of those long-rumored additions to the fleet, she takes her place at last alongside the Galactica and her sister ships — a piece of Battlestar Galactica lore realized for the very first time."

Both ships actually have quite an interesting story in the history of the franchise, and they could easily have played a much more significant role in the story than they ended up doing. They were written into the original lore (alongside Solaria) as ships that would be introduced to viewers if the original 1978 release went beyond its first season.

That obviously never happened, but the ships made appearances in spirit when the reboot debuted and other adaptations started to release. In the 2004 version, the Prometheus ends up being a civilian cargo freighter that serves as the home to the fleet's Black Market criminal syndicate.

Meanwhile, the Cerberus appears in the officially licensed tactical strategy game Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, where it is actually an enormous Cylon Super Carrier that features heavily during the First Cylon War.

Here, though, they appear in the form that they were originally intended for, and that makes them genuinely unique collectors items for any discerning Battlestar Galactica fan.

As mentioned in the description, these latest Battlestar Galactica efforts are limited to just 500 for each ship, so you'll need to move quickly if you want to get one. It's available to pre-order, with an expected release date any day now, though each product will set you back $74.99, as these are very much intended to be art pieces rather than toys.
