10/10 2018 Game Officially Delisted On Xbox Following Boycott

Xbox has officially lost another game following a boycott of Microsoft, and this time, it’s a 10/10 award-winning title that has been delisted. Microsoft and its gaming division have become the targets of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement, and this has already led to a few boycotts, including a major 2026 release. Earlier this month, it was announced that Big Walk would not release on Xbox, as part of that BDS boycott. The indie game was expected to arrive on Xbox, but the developers revealed that it will not happen until Microsoft and/or Xbox are removed as targets.

Now, according to a new report by Games Radar, another game has officially entered the boycott movement. As seen in the article, Extremely OK Games has adhered to the BDS movement and, as a result, delisted two of its games from Xbox platforms. The first of them is TowerFall, while the second one is the 2018 indie wonder Celeste. As of right now, it has become impossible to purchase either of those games on any of Microsoft’s stores. This has been confirmed by studio director Maddy Thorson in a post on Bluesky, who wrote, "For those who’re asking, yes we delisted Celeste and TowerFall on XBox. We did this to support the BDS boycott."

The BDS movement, according to the official website, “is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.” This boycott movement was founded back in 2005, but has recently gained traction given the ongoing genocide taking place in the Gaza Strip, according to the ICJ (International Court of Justice), alongside the decades of “settler colonialism, apartheid, and occupation over Palestinian people” and their territories. Those joining the BDS movement, like the developers of Celeste, adhere to certain boycotts.

According to the BDS movement, Xbox is a priority boycott target because of “their complicity in Israel’s occupation, apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.” The parent company Microsoft is listed as a pressure target of the BDS movement. The movement states that Microsoft is “perhaps the most complicit tech company in Israel’s illegal apartheid regime and ongoing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza,” highlighting the company’s “strong ties to the Israeli military” and its “collaboration with Israeli government ministries.”

Celeste is one of 2018’s biggest indie games. The title received the Best Independent Game and Games for Impact awards at The Game Awards in 2018, and is viewed by many as a flawless 10/10 game. It is also considered one of the most difficult indie games of all time. As of right now, Celeste can be purchased and played on PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC. TowerFall can be found on the same platforms, though it is a multiplayer platform fighter game.

Both of these games have been removed from Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem with no prospect of returning. Like the Big Walk developers, it seems like those participating in the BDS boycotts will only consider adding their titles to the platform once the gaming brand is removed as a boycott target. While it is not, games like Big Walk, Celeste, and TowerFall will continue to be unplayable on Xbox platforms.
