Rapid KL, SIC tighten F1 shuttle operations after congestion

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid KL and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) have improved visitor pick-up and drop-off operations following traffic congestion during the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
Rapid KL said shuttle bus operations, including bus movements and passenger handling, were being managed according to fixed protocols.
Traffic management and vehicle flow at SIC's pick-up and drop-off points are being coordinated with event organisers and relevant agencies.
"Enhancements were implemented today to ensure smoother and more orderly shuttle bus operations.
"As of 11am today, traffic flow and passenger movement remained smooth and under control," Rapid KL said in a statement.
Media reports previously highlighted that fans attending the first day of the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix faced long waits and chaotic rushes for shuttle buses leaving the circuit.
Some spectators chose to walk out of the venue rather than wait in heavy congestion or scramble to board buses.
Rapid KL said it would continue monitoring the situation with SIC and relevant agencies to ensure smooth passenger movement and an improved visitor experience.
"Rapid KL notes the feedback from passengers regarding their journey to SIC yesterday.
"We will continue to work closely with all parties to ensure operational coordination and passenger movement run smoothly throughout the event.
"Rapid KL appreciates the patience, cooperation and feedback from passengers to help us improve the travel experience throughout the event," it said.
