Netflix Announces Cast for Webtoon-Based Live-Action Series Outback
Netflix confirmed production on Friday of its new series Outback (working title), with Jun-Yeol Ryu, Kyung Hong, Ho-yeon Jung, Ji-an Won, and Justin H. Min set to star.
Based on the webtoon G'day by Yong Sung Choi, Outback follows Sion, who travels to Australia after his older sister's sudden death. In an unfamiliar city, he begins investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and uncovers hidden truths.
The story of the original webtoon, originally serialized between 2015 and 2017, reads:
Having lost all contact with his sister, Shiyoung, a worried Shion sets out to see what is wrong by arriving in Australia, where his sister was staying. While staying at the share house his sister was living, he starts to sense that the people there have something to do with his missing sister.
Hong will play Sion, who travels to Australia to uncover the truth behind his sister's death. Ryu will play Min-hyuk, a man at the center of the mystery Sion investigates.
Jung will portray Smiley, a creator who communicates with people through livestreams in Australia, while Won will play Sion's older sister, Si-young. Justin H. Min will portray Scott, a Korean-Australian police officer.
A release date has not yet been decided.
