Gov't boosts food assistance distribution to protect purchasing power

South Lampung (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said the government, through State-owned logistics agency Bulog, is continuing to strengthen food assistance distribution as a tool to safeguard food security.

Through the distribution of targeted food assistance, the government hopes to maintain people's purchasing power and ensure that food needs are met, Zulkifli said after inspecting food assistance distribution at Merah Putih Village Cooperatives in Pisang Village, South Lampung District, Lampung Province on Friday.

"This food assistance is targeted at beneficiary communities designated by the government, particularly groups that need support to meet their daily food needs," he said.

According to Zulkifli, the food assistance is aimed at helping people to cope with a potential increase in food prices.

The coordinating minister said the food assistance represents the government's presence in helping people in need and is also a part of the social safety net.

Zulkifli conducted a food assistance inspection, accompanied by Perum BULOG President Director Lieutenant General Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, to ensure the efforts are reaching the intended beneficiaries.

The visit allowed officials to assess the conditions of beneficiary communities in the region directly.

The activity was also part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the central and local governments in maintaining food stability amid the current dry season.

Zulkifli previously said the government is preparing anticipatory measures to deal with the dry season and the lean period, which could potentially push up rice prices.

The measures include distributing food assistance and strengthening government rice reserves to ensure that people's needs continue to be met and that rice prices remain affordable.
