Geoffrey Mosiria Laments City Hall Dismissal And Officially Accepts Call To Challenge Sakaja In 2027 Nairobi Gubernatorial Race
Former Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has escalated his public reaction following his dismissal from City Hall, venting his frustration over remaining in administrative communication channels while officially declaring his bid for the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared online on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Mosiria drew a humorous comparison between his situation and the current fortunes of Manchester United, lamenting that he remains in the same WhatsApp group as county leadership despite his removal.
“Man -U na katibu mkuu tuko same Whatsapp group bi uchungu sana,” Mosiria lamented.
Turning his attention to county politics, Mosiria addressed Nairobi residents directly, claiming he was answering a widespread public call for leadership that prioritizes service over political posturing.
“Wananchi Mnasema Hamtaki politician mnataka a worker, a servant not a master. Wananchi wa Nairobi mmeniita niwe Gavana wenu, nimukubali wito wenu,” he stated, before launching into his campaign rally slogan: “NAIROBI NI MORE SERIOUS NA GEOFFREY MOSIRIA! SIRI NI MOSIRIA! NAIROBI NI MOSIRIA! MOSIRIA NI NAIROBI!”
City Hall Removal and Administrative Reassignment
Mosiria’s latest declarations come a day after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja removed him from his position as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement, and Customer Service.
The administrative changes were formally communicated on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, via a notice issued by Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service Machel Waikenda. Following Mosiria’s exit, Zipporah Njeri Mwangi—the Chief Officer for City Culture, Arts, and Tourism—was assigned to oversee the public participation docket in an acting capacity.
The dismissal followed weeks after Mosiria publicly announced his intention to challenge Sakaja for the county’s top seat in 2027.
Claims of Longstanding Internal Fallout
Following the termination notice, Mosiria claimed that his rift with Governor Sakaja was not sudden, asserting that internal friction began as early as December 2023 when he was reassigned from the health department.
He further alleged that during his tenure in the health docket, his operating budget was slashed from Ksh 1.2 billion down to Ksh 100 million, severely curtailing his operational capacity before his eventual reassignment across various county departments.
Mosiria’s official entry into the gubernatorial contest signals intensifying political competition and internal friction at City Hall as key players position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
