Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Recall Sparks 2028 T20 World Cup Theory From Former SRH Star

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad star Tirumalasetti Suman shared a striking perspective on Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return to the Indian team. The veteran pacer earned a recall for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Bhuvneshwar, who last played for India in November 2022, continued to improve his performances and produced several outstanding spells for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. As a reward for his consistency, he has made his way back into the national setup despite being 36 years old.
Suman suggested that the selectors may have one eye on the 2028 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, and could be giving Bhuvneshwar an opportunity to finish his international career just like former India pacer Ashish Nehra.
"It is a fantastic decision. I think the selectors have thought about it. In 2028, the upcoming T20 World Cup is happening in Australia and New Zealand. So it is a great opportunity to test his fitness. If he lasts till the World Cup, he will be 38 years. Ashish Nehra played his last T20 match at the age of 38. So why not Bhuvi?," Suman said in a video on his YouTube channel.
He further pointed out that Bhuvneshwar has played 60 IPL matches since his last appearance for India and is currently the highest Indian wicket-taker after last four IPL seasons.
"What a story! 36-year-old Bhuvneshwar Kumar makes a comeback into the India T20 squad. Exactly 4 years ago, in November 2022, he played his last international match in New Zealand and now, he is going to New Zealand again. He has played 4 IPL seasons since then. If we add up all those 4 seasons, Bhuvi is the highest wicket-taker for Indian bowlers," he said.
"He has bowled match-winning spells. That too with the new ball in powerplay, on flat pitches, wickets in middle overs, yorkers in end overs, economical, everything. This is thoroughly deserving and I love this selection," he added.
The T20I series between India and New Zealand will kick-start from October 22 at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
