GOF seizes RM86,000 worth of firecrackers in raid, 40-year-old man arrested
TEMERLOH: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 49 boxes of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM86,700 during a raid on a store at Taman Bukit Bendera last night.
The 8pm operation, codenamed Op Taring Charlie, also led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man at the premises.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the man failed to produce any documents for the items stored there.
"He was believed to have obtained the firecrackers from Triang, Bera, and rented the store for RM500 a month.
"The firecrackers were believed to be leftover stock from the previous festive season," he said in a statement today.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possession of unlawful explosive materials.
If convicted, the suspect faces up to seven years in jail, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
The raid was jointly conducted by the GOF 7th Battalion Intelligence Branch and the Temerloh district police Criminal Investigation Division.
