Drug suspect eludes arrest in Agusan del Norte

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur— Authorities failed to arrest a drug suspect, but seized at least P103,000 worth of suspected shabu during a raid in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, on Tuesday, police said Wednesday.

In a statement, the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO-13) said personnel of the Buenavista Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 13, served a search warrant in Purok 6, Barangay 7.

The warrant was issued on Oct. 5 by the Regional Trial Court Branch 3 in Libertad, Butuan City, against a suspect identified only as alias “Michael,” classified by authorities as a street-level drug suspect.

During the search on Tuesday, operatives recovered nine heat-sealed plastic sachets containing 15.2 grams of suspected shabu valued at P103,360.

Police said the suspect escaped during the raid and remains at large.

They brought the seized items to the Buenavista police station for inventory and proper disposition.

Charges for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being prepared against the suspect.

PRO-13 director Brig. Gen. Rolindo M. Suguilon said police units in the Caraga region will sustain their momentum against illicit narcotics.

“Our law enforcement units remain steadfast in our commitment to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs, dismantle illegal drug activities, strengthen public safety, and ensure that violators are dealt with in accordance with the law,” Suguilon said./coa
