Jason Statham takes on a flamethrower in excellent trailer for The Beekeeper 2

Translate

Amazon MGM Studios has released the trailer for The Beekeeper 2, Jason Statham's action thriller sequel, and it's even more ridiculous than the original. That's a good thing, by the way.

If you needed reminding, the first film starred Statham as an actual beekeeper who is secretly a former member of The Beekeepers, a super secret organisation that goes above the government to keep the United States safe.

As we see in the trailer, this time The Beekeepers have gone rogue, and it's up to Statham to sort them out.

Obviously that's all just an excuse for some over-the-top action. The highlights are the moment where he swerves around in a car firing a minigun, dodges under a flamethrower, and then grabs said flamethrower, shoves it in someone's mouth and turns it on.

Of course, there are some dreadful-yet-fantastic puns too. If you're Jason Statham and you've just set off a flamethrower inside someone's mouth, what do you say? "Next time don't be so hot-headed."

Jeremy Irons, Jemma Redgrave, The Umbrella Academy's Emmy Raver-Lampman, professional wrestler Adam Copeland, and Marvel and Mission: Impossible star Pom Klementieff also star in the sequel.

We at Digital Spy were big fans of the first film, with our review reading: "The script from Kurt Wimmer might not be the strongest, but it never passes up the opportunity for a bee pun, which is the important thing...

"And when Clay is punching away or dismembering somebody with a lift, The Beekeeper is a glorious watch. Statham doing his own stunts adds an effectively crunchy feel to the fight sequences."

Although Wimmer was originally announced to be writing the screenplay for the second film, it's actually Umair Aleem who penned the script for the sequel. Meanwhile, horror-action filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto took over directing duties from David Ayer.

If you're looking for other Jason Statham movies to watch at home, action thriller Cellular was recently added to Netflix, while the heist thriller The Bank Job is available on Sky Cinema.

The Beekeeper 2 will be released in US and UK cinemas on 15 January.
