India head coach Amol Muzumdar addressed the controversy which broke out after the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final on Sunday.

After the Women in Blue beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs to lift their eighth Asia Cup title, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side refused to take the trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also part of the Pakistan government.

This was a repeat of the men’s Asia Cup final last year, when the then Suryakumar Yadav-led team had refused to take the title from Naqvi after beating Pakistan in the summit clash.

“That stand has been taken by the BCCI and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over. We are the champions,” Muzumdar told reporters during the press conference.

“It was on the big board that India ‘Champions of Asia Cup 2026’. This tournament is officially over for us. Now, we look forward to the Asian Games,” he added.
