Over 1,000 children join Fola David world record drive

Nigerian visual artist and Guinness World Record holder, Fola David

Nigerian visual artist and Guinness World Record holder, Fola David, is set to lead more than 1,000 children in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest fabric marbling painting.

In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Friday, David said the project was designed to promote creativity, inclusion and collaboration by bringing together children from different backgrounds to create a single artwork.

The Nigerian medical doctor, said the event, tagged Colors of Possibility, is scheduled to hold on November 11, 2026, at Onikan Stadium, Lagos, with children from public and private schools, vocational centres and the wider community expected to participate.

“Colors of Possibility will place children at the centre of an extraordinary creative experience, giving each participant the opportunity to contribute to a collective artwork while working towards a Guinness World Record,” he said.

David added that the project would encourage children to develop their artistic abilities, build confidence and appreciate the value of teamwork.

“Beyond the record attempt, we want the children to understand that their individual contributions matter. By bringing together their ideas, colours and creativity, they will see how much they can achieve when they work together,” he said.

He noted that the children, including those with additional needs, will participate in a coordinated fabric marbling exercise under David’s artistic direction. Their individual contributions will form part of one continuous composition.

David disclosed that the initiative, powered by 78MFB, will also feature a ₦10m Creative Fund dedicated to children to support their creative potential.

He said the fund was intended to extend the project’s impact beyond the event by connecting participation in the art initiative with opportunities to nurture young talent.

“Through the ₦10m Creative Fund, we want to reinforce the importance of investing in children’s creativity and helping them explore their potential,” he said.

David’s involvement builds on his previous Guinness World Record achievement, which brought international attention to his artistic work. The forthcoming initiative shifts the focus to young people by giving them the opportunity to participate in a large-scale creative undertaking.

David said he hoped participants would leave with a lasting sense of achievement, having contributed to an artwork that demonstrates the possibilities of collective creativity.

According to him, the initiative has the support of the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Federal Ministry of Education.
