Two people, including a student, have allegedly been stabbed outside a school in Canberra's south.

Police said they received a report of a confrontation in the car park outside Lake Tuggeranong College around 1:30pm.

In an email to families, the college said a student and another person were injured "following an altercation involving members of the community who brought a knife into the car park near our school".

Police said one of the injured people attended the Tuggeranong Police Station, while the second went to the Tuggeranong Walk-in Centre.

Both were later taken to hospital for further treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

"The student involved is doing well and is receiving medical care," the email to families said.

"Police attended our school and managed the incident.

"We understand that witnessing or hearing about an incident like this may be upsetting for some students.

"Wellbeing support is available at school for any student who needs it."

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident and have urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

Lake Tuggeranong College said it could not provide further information for privacy reasons.
