Nvidia’s Shield TV streaming boxes are the latest victims of the memory shortage that has seen prices increase dramatically for everything from digital cameras to game consoles. When the Shield TV Pro launched nearly seven years ago with an upgraded Tegra X1+ processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, it sold for $199.99. But starting on October 2nd Nvidia increased its price by $100 to $299.99 as a result of the increased cost of components, according to Ars Technica.

When the Pro model was first announced in 2019 Nvidia also debuted an updated entry-level version of the Shield TV with the same processor but 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage priced at $149.99. Unfortunately, it will no longer be an option for those now looking for a cheaper alternative to the Shield TV Pro. Nvidia has stopped production of the standard Shield TV model and moving forward it’s focusing its efforts on only manufacturing the Pro option, according to Gizmodo.

High demand for Nvidia’s other hardware including GPUs and AI chips has been a major contributor to the dramatic price increases of components and devices over the past few years. So while this price increase may reduce demand for the Shield TV Pro while competing streaming boxes like the $149 Google TV Streamer are much cheaper (even after recent price hikes), it won’t affect Nvidia’s value as the company continues to dominate the AI race.
